St. Paul's Anglican Church in East Devonport, Tasmania, has been a significant landmark since its establishment in the late 19th century. The church was opened for divine service and dedicated to St. Paul on July 2, 1879, and was consecrated on March 11, 1882.
Over the years, St. Paul's has faced several challenges, including multiple fires. In January 2001, the church suffered an arson attack that caused structural damage, necessitating repairs to the sanctuary walls and the construction of a new roof over the nave.
In July 2019, the church was again damaged by fire, which was later determined to be deliberately set.
Following the 2019 fire, the church was closed for repairs, and the congregation temporarily relocated to St. John's in Devonport. In 2023, due to various challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on services, the decision was made to close St. Paul's permanently.
Throughout its history, St. Paul's Anglican Church has been a central part of the East Devonport community, reflecting both the resilience and challenges of maintaining historical places of worship.
