Cricket Legends to Visit Devonport for Exciting ACA Masters Tour in December

Devonport is set to host the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) Masters Cricket Tour from December 12 to 14, 2024. This three-day event, organized in collaboration with Cricket Tasmania and the Devonport City Council, aims to unite the community through various cricket activities.

The tour will feature renowned players such as Brett Geeves, Emily Smith, Tom Triffett, Hamish Kingston, Asha Smith, Alexander Doolan, Angela Burdon, and Bobby Quiney. Their participation is expected to provide memorable experiences for fans and local residents.

Cricket Tasmania has scheduled two clinics during the tour:

  • Junior Teams Cricket Clinic: On Thursday, December 12, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Maidstone Park, for players aged 10-16. This session will serve as a training opportunity for the Devonport and Spreyton Junior teams, as well as young players from the Don and Mersey Colts Cricket Clubs.
  • Cricket Blast Clinic: On Friday, December 13, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Devonport Oval, for children aged 5-9. This event is in conjunction with the Devonport Cricket Club’s Cricket Blast Program and is open to all young cricket enthusiasts.

Friday evening will feature a T20 match between the Devonport Cricket Club and Latrobe Cricket Club at Devonport Oval from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Masters players will participate, offering an exciting spectacle for attendees. During the match, other Masters players will host a Q&A session in the Devonport Cricket Club clubrooms, providing fans with the chance to interact with cricket legends. The event is open to all, with light refreshments available, including a BBQ and bar service.

On Saturday, December 14, Masters players will visit local senior cricket matches throughout the Devonport area, engaging with fans and sharing their passion for the game.

Mayor Alison Jarman expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "The ACA Masters Cricket Tour is a fantastic opportunity to bring our community together, inspire the next generation, and engage with some of cricket’s greats. We look forward to the positive impact this event will have on our region."

To commemorate the occasion, the Devonport City Council will give away two signed cricket bats, offering community members a chance to own a piece of cricketing history.
