Devonport City Council to vote on controversial petrol station development

On Monday the 23rd, the Devonport City Council will be voting on a zoning application to allow the construction of an On the Run petrol station which will also sell fast food, and have an automated car wash located on the site of 10 & 11 Formby Road. The council minutes have provided two recommendations for the council to consider.

The first recommendation is to refuse the application, citing that the safety of the Elizabeth Street and Formby Road junction will be compromised by the increase in vehicle movements from the site, and the efficiency of the road network will be negatively impacted. Additionally, it is noted that the impact of the proposed carwash on the amenity of the adjacent residential property to the west is unreasonable.

The second recommendation is to approve the application and grant a Permit to use and develop the land for the purposes of Vehicle Fuel Sales & Service and Food Services, subject to a number of conditions.

The council has assessed the proposal and identified a number of concerns, which were highlighted in the council minutes. The assessment has determined that the safety of the Elizabeth Street and Formby Road junction will be compromised by the increase in vehicle movements from the site, and the efficiency of the road network will be negatively impacted. Additionally, the impact of the proposed carwash on the amenity of the adjacent residential property to the west is unreasonable.

It is important to note that the council has carefully considered the proposal and the potential impacts it may have on the community. It is now up to the council members to make a decision based on the information presented to them, and consider the best course of action for the community.
